Some History of Witchcraft essays
Some History of Witchcraft essays The story of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis could be taken as warnings to the Hebrew people to stay away from Goddess worshiping religions. The following is a detailed summary of the story from the book of Genesis: God created the Garden of Eden and placed man inside to be its gardener. He tells man, who is later named Adam, not to eat any fruit from the tree in the center. This tree is called the Tree of Conscience or Knowledge. Then God decided to make man a companion, and so he took a rib from man and made it into a woman. Adam claims that her name is woman because she was taken out of a man (Genesis 2:23. pg 2). The serpent comes along and questions woman about the forbidden fruit. The serpent says that God does not want them to eat the fruit because the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened- you will be able to distinguish good from evil! (Genesis 3:5. pg 2). So the woman eats the fruit and has the man eat some too. And as they ate it, suddenly they became aware of their nakedness, and were embarrassed. So they strung fig leaves together to cover themselves around the hips (Genesis 3:7. pg 2). When God comes looking for them later, he discovers that they have partaken of the fruit. Adam says that, it was the woman you gave me who brought me some, and I ate it (Genesis 3:12. pg 3). And when God asked woman why, she replies, the serpent tricked me (Genesis 3:13. pg 3). So God curses the serpent, and says that for all of eternity, mankind and serpents will be enemies. Then God curses women to have children in pain and suffering, yet she will welcome mans affection, and he shall be her master. Finally God curses man for listening to his wife. God puts a curse on the soil so that man will toil to make a living from it until he dies. In death you will return to the ground from which you came&...

Apple Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Apple - Assignment Example is the story of the late Steve Jobs life and history, and he is in many ways linked to the success of the company. In the 1990ââ¬â¢s Appleââ¬â¢s market share and fortunes suffered a dip and spiraled down. Steve Jobs, who had left the company in 1985, made a comeback in 1996, became the CEO and embarked on changing the companyââ¬â¢s fortunes. His return heralded the beginning of a new way of doing things. He introduced products that were easier to use and more responsive to consumer needs (Elliot, 2012). The first of these was the iMac introduced in 1998, followed by the iPod music player in 2001 and the iTunes music store in 2003. These products under the leadership of Jobs significantly turned around the companyââ¬â¢s fortunes and changed its philosophy, from a computer company to a consumer electronics and media sales one. More eye-catching products including Smartphones and tablets were introduced and by 2012 it was the largest global public trading corporation with a US $626 billion value higher than that of established names like Microsoft or Google. Its revenue in 2012 totaled US $ 65 billion dollars and rose to US$ 156 in 2012 which was a major turnaround (Dubrin, 2015). This turn around teaches us several lessons in Management starting with the inspirational leadership of Steve Jobs. He relied on a group of engineers and designers to innovate Appleââ¬â¢s products. This group was highly motivated and inspired. They would often go for retreats to brainstorm and come up with suggestions. The core team would be comprised of the best brains, and the retreats would serve as means of creating a work-life balance. This team would be well compensated in line with Maslowââ¬â¢s motivation theory and ERG expectancy theory. The core team was close-knit, loyal and stuck together. It was tasked with the creation of Appleââ¬â¢s unique products; a challenging, intrinsic as well as extrinsically rewarding job. Steve Jobs set them clear and inspiring objectives and pushed them

English Composition Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
English Composition - Personal Statement Example The lessons were not my favorite part of my day, but I soon fond my skills developing and that my piano playing was actually improving. I decide to keep playing until I entered the 6th grade, and then I completely lost all interest. I had never chosen the instrument for myself, and I did not want to continue playing. However, the skills that I had learned playing piano would further help me in my attachment to music throughout the next few years. My next major step into the musical world would be a few years later when I decided to learn the tuba. It appealed to me, and it was something that I decided I wanted to do. I quickly became proficient at the instrument, as I already had the musical skills of reading music and counting that many students had to being to learn. Since I had already has these skills mastered fro playing the piano, I was able to start right away at learning how to play the tuba, instead of worrying about learning the simple basis of music. It was also around this time that the music I was listening to around me began to impact my life. I began listening to various types of music I had never experienced before, and it greatly changed who I was as a person. I began to expand my musical horizons , and began to see just how important music has been to me so far. I found my favorite band during this period, and their influence on my whole life could never be under estimated. As I began to grow musically however, I started to see a rift opening between what I was learning to play on tuba and what I was listening to. The classical pieces that I was playing on tuba did not line up well with the rock and contemporary music I as listening to, and I began to see myself drift away from the older, classical, types of music. I performed in many solo festivals for tuba, and did well in all of them. However, it was not until I found one piece, a super contemporary piece composed for solo tuba, that I began to really play. It was a piece that had no classical melody or older ideas, it was a new breathe of fresh air into my solo repertoire. It was a piece that even my teacher said I wouldn't be able to learn to play in time, but I was determined to learn it and master it to the best of my ability. And for a month I did little else beside practice the hell out of that solo. I practiced every free second I had, and ended up expanding my range to notes I had never even though of hitting before. My ability as a player greatly improved, and I found myself combining my love of rock-esque music and tuba playing coming together for perhaps the first time. Music has always been important to me, and my tuba playing is just the start. A few years later I decided to take up acoustic guitar for fun, and while I am not technically amazing, I have been able to write songs on it. It gives me a chance to express myself that I cannot do through any other means, and it is just a fun part of my life. I still play both tuba and guitar, and hope one day to possibly combine my love and ability to play both into some kind of band. And it would probably be a band that would be a sound unlike anything ever heard. Music has changed who I am, and for most of my life has shaped the course of my future. I would not be where I was today if it wasn't for the help, lessons that music has taught me and the influenced that music of all kids has had on my life. I would encourage everyone to take some sort of music lesson and to give their

Cognitive Dissonance Essay Example for Free
Cognitive Dissonance Essay Solving a cognitive dissonance is a good way to look at all your cards on the table, so to speak. The definition of cognitive dissonance is A feeling of discomfort caused by a discrepancy between an attitude and a behavior or between two attitudes. (S.Carpenter, K. Huffman 2010). This is means that cognitive dissonance is a problem that involves how you feel and what you are doing to cause the problem. For an example: a man has stolen a car. He feels upset that he has stolen the car but he is in desperate need of money. The mans attitude is that stealing is wrong and his behavior is that he has stolen a car. To solve this cognitive dissonance, the man will have to either change his attitude (change his belief that stealing is wrong) or his behavior (Give back the car and never steal again). To solve cognitive dissonance you will have to, like I put it, put your cards on the table and resolve your problem(s). Like the stealing man I referenced, he noticed his problem was either his attitude for the whole thing or his behavior. To avoid cognitive dissonance, you can completely ignore the problem. Someone can be a doctor that chain smokes even though they have warned their patients of the dangers of smoking and completely ignore the attitude (guilt for being a hypocrite and endangering their own lives) and the behavior (smoking) and be a smoker without thinking anything wrong or good about it. One example of cognitive dissonance that happened to me is the first and only time I cheated on a test back in high school. I needed to pass an exam because I was out sick for a month and my grade was low. A student was selling the test answers for five dollars and I bought one. When I took the test, I was felt guilty for cheating. My attitude was that cheating was wrong yet my behavior was that I was cheating on my test. I choose to fix my attitude on the grounds of that I REALLY needed to pass the test with flying colors and I felt that studying wasnt going to cut it. It turns out that the test answers were from the wrong test and everyone who bought the answers, like me, failed. Luckily the teacher hated the turn out so much that she allowed everyone to retake it. I got a 95% on my own. I never cheated again.

College Hazing Essay -- College University Student Hazing Violence
Hazing in universities across the nation has become an increasingly dangerous ritual that is seemingly becoming more difficult to put an end to due to its development into an ââ¬Å"undergroundâ⬠activity. Though a regular activity in the seventies, hazing, a possible dangerous act of initiation to a group, has now become an activity that is banned in thirty-nine states (Wagner 16). However, this ritual has not been stopped or become less severe. In fact it is becoming more dangerous. Since it has been banned, with many colleges imposing their own penalties against those participating in it, many fraternities and sororities have pursued this activity in an underground fashion. Since these groups have gone underground, some victims of these rituals have been injured and subsequently died. This is due to the ââ¬Å"hazersâ⬠not seeking medical treatment for the victims, for fear that they may be fined or charged by police or campus authorities. One estimate states that at lea st sixty-five students have died between the years of 1978 and 1996 from beatings and stress inflicted during fraternity initiation rites (ââ¬Å"Greekâ⬠26). Hazing has been defined in the Pennsylvania Hazing Law as ââ¬Å"any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical safety of a student or which destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in, any organization operating under the sanction of or recognized as an organization by an institution of higher education. The term shall include, but not be limited to, any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or other substance, or any forced physical activity which could adversely affect the physical health and safety of the individual, and shall include any activity which would subject the individual to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct which could r esult in extreme embarrassment, or any other forced activity which could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the individualâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Pennsylvania Hazing Lawâ⬠1). The importance of this hazing situation is the fact that people are being injured, both physically and... ...itiation Remains the Most Secret of Campus Rituals ââ¬â and the Most Debauched.â⬠The New York Times Magazine 3 Nov. 1996 : 50. ââ¬Å"Former Student Wins #375,000 in Omega Psi Phi Hazing Suit.â⬠Jet 4 Aug. 1997 : 23. ââ¬Å"Greek Tragedies.â⬠U.S. News & World Report 29 Apr. 1996 : 26.
